Putting the ‘Party’ in Preview for Film Enthusiasts

It’s a panoply, buffet, smorgasbord of choices that only Sundance revelers could mimic.
As they ask at the Varsity, “What’ll you have?” Romcoms, drama, documentaries, classics, shorts, narratives, dancing, or chasing a polar bear under water. The crescendos of Jewish life will soon be exposed for our viewing pleasure at the 2020 Atlanta Jewish Film Festival Feb. 10-27. The Jan. 9 preview party for the 20th anniversary film festival, “Years of Storytelling,” was teased at the Sandy Springs Byers Theatre, one of the main venues of the festival.
The atrium lobby was alive with Added Touch Catering food complexity. For comfort food, there was macaroni and cheese, passed hot beet borscht, mashed potatoes and grilled salmon. Israeli “comfort food” included humongous, artfully arranged falafel bowls atop quinoa salad alongside colorful raw veggies, cheeses, berries and nuts, with more passing such as Turkey Cubans. Artistic conversation always accompanies eating with this crowd of patrons and sponsors.

Solomonov, Cook and the Banks Produce Big Treats

As the final weekend of the 27th Edition of the Book Festival of the MJCCA winds down, chef restaurateurs Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook hit just the right spot. An Israeli feast featuring selected recipes from their newly published “Israeli Soul” cookbook was prepared by Sandra and Clive Bank of A Kosher Touch.
The “In the Mood for Israeli Street Food” presentation at noon Nov. 15 aptly kept all 205 of us “in the mood” with a bounteous, colorful buffet. On the menu was Turkish salad, string beans doused in hummus, individual pita stuffed falafel, sour pickles, traditional tahini, zucchini schnitzel, and cabbage-onion sumac salad (my favorite), followed by sufganiyot. (Chanukah-themed donut holes).
